Thai-Hoang Pham
I am an incoming Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Texas State University (starting August 2026), where I direct the Probabilistic and Human-Aligned Modeling (PHAM) Lab. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2025. Before OSU, I received my bachelor's degree (Valedictorian) from FPT University.
My research lies at the intersection of machine learning and its applications to healthcare and biomedicine, with a focus on trustworthy AI (fairness, robustness, explainability), multimodal medical imaging, and biomedical foundation & multimodal language models.

[Recruiting] My PHAM Lab at Texas State University is recruiting multiple fully-funded Ph.D. students starting Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Fall 2027. I am also happy to work with motivated visiting students and interns.
I am looking for students interested in:
- Trustworthy AI, machine learning, and large language models
- Multimodal large language models for medical image analysis
-> Ideal candidates are self-motivated and passionate about original research, have strong programming experience, and a background in machine learning, natural language processing, or biomedical informatics. First-author publications at top venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, KDD, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV) are a plus. GRE is not required.
-> How to apply: email me at hoangpham at txstate dot edu with the subject line “Ph.D. Applicant - Your Name”, and attach your CV and transcripts. Candidates whose background aligns with the lab’s directions will be contacted for a Zoom meeting. If you are already at Texas State, feel free to reach out to chat about research.
